Q & A with Dr. Beltsos:

What do you like best about being a physician in reproductive medicine?

It is a unique job being able to combine state-of-the-art science with the miracle of life, and the fulfilling couples lifelong dream of having a baby.  Reproductive medicine is an ever changing area of medicine so using high tech scientific advances in clinical practices is very exciting.  I have an amazing group of nurses, doctors, laboratories and staff that make FCI one of the best places to practice reproductive endocrinology in the world today.

Why did you choose to work in the field of reproductive medicine?

While I was a medical student and rotated through a part of the hospital labeled "IVF LAB" , I was immediately impressed with the potential of their work that day. In that moment, I decided that my studies would be geared toward the goal of becoming a reproductive endocrinologist.

What are your special areas of interest in reproductive medicine?

I have special interests in helping women over 40 achieve pregnancy which can be challenging as her ovarian reserve may be decreasing.

Another area of interest is preimplantation genetic diagnosis or screening. FCI has been a leader in the field of using the latest blastocyst biopsy techniques and advanced screening of all 24 chromosomes.

Third party reproduction is also an exciting area of REI for me, and offers the opportunity to build a family using a gestational carrier, donor eggs or donor sperm. Illinois is one of the friendlier places in the US and world for families needing this type of fertility care. I have also been participating in PCOS clinical research and patient care.

What do you do for fun in your spare time?

I like spending time with my husband and children, dancing, golfing, bike riding, and traveling.  Hobbies include photography, reading and watching hockey games.
