Jim Toner, M.D., Ph.D., a board certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, joined Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine in the summer of 2000 following a highly successful career at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, VA.  During his distinguished tenure at the Jones Institute, Dr. Toner was the Director of the Fellowship Program and the Institute’s Third Party reproduction program.  His noted success in his directorship of the third party reproduction program continues here at ACRM.

Dr. Toner graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia with a B.S. in Psychology and then enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training program at the University of Pennsylvania, which awarded him both his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in 1985.  Dr. Toner then had the distinct honor of pursuing his Residency and Fellowship training at the Jones Institute, under the Institute’s founder, Howard W. Jones, Jr., MD.   While at the Jones Institute, Dr. Toner was recognized for his gift at teaching, receiving both the Resident of the Year Award in 1989, and being inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the premier medical honor society, in 1990.  Dr. Toner was invited to join the distinguished faculty at the Jones Institute, where he rose to the rank of Associate Professor during his 15 years in Norfolk.

Dr. Toner has a distinguished record of research contributions to the field, having published over 90 abstracts, 75 articles, and 15 chapters on topics of reproductive medicine.  He is best known for his work on the evaluation of ovarian reserve and its impact on fertility.  Dr. Toner has also investigated the role of progesterone in luteal support of Assisted Reproduction cycles, and the differences among gonadotropins in providing ovarian stimulation.  For these contributions, Dr. Toner has received the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Ciba-Geigy Award, the AFS / Ortho Fellowship, the Berlex Foundation Faculty Development Award, and the American Fertility Society Ortho Award.  He has also twice been awarded the “First Prize Paper” at the profession’s national meeting.  As a nationally recognized speaker, he has given over 160 presentations at local and national meetings.  He is an active member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), for which he served as Clinical Director and Chair of the Registry Committee.

Dr. Toner specializes in treatment of infertility and recurrent miscarriage.  With his doctoral training in psychology, he also takes special care in focusing on the emotional aspects of each patient and providing a warm and individualized approach to the infertility treatment process.  Dr. Toner believes that while not everyone becomes pregnant with treatment, everyone deserves a try.

Dr. Toner is married to Dr. Regina Toner, a veterinarian.  They are blessed with four marvelous children as well as their family pets.  Dr. Toner enjoys spending his free time with his family and nurturing his green thumb in the garden.
