Matthew A. Cohen, M.D. serves as the Director of Reproductive Endocrinology at North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Center for Human Reproduction.  He is an accomplished fertility specialist and an expert in the field of Jewish law, as it relates to menstruation and sexual relations within marriage.  Many patients seek Dr. Cohen for his ability to guide them through their fertility treatment while following Jewish law.  He treats patients with uterine abnormalities, hormonal deficiencies, unexplained infertility, premature ovarian failure, genetic abnormalities, and numerous other fertility issues.

Dr. Cohen is certified in both OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology.  He is the author of numerous research papers in the fields of physiology and reproductive endocrinology, and holds academic appointments.  He also served as a course director for an international symposium in Jerusalem on women’s health and Jewish law. 

Dr. Cohen is a graduate of Columbia College and received his Medical Degree from the Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale, he spent his last 18 months of training doing intensive research at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Cape Cod; the Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem; and the Israel Institute of Biology. He completed his OB/GYN residency at Harvard University and his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Columbia University.  During his years as an undergraduate, he spent his summers studying with rabbinical students from Yeshiva University.
