Steven Nakajima, MD is a Professor with tenure and Division Chief, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine. He has broad experience as a physician, medical director and educator.
Dr. Nakajima served as the Medical Director of the Fertility Center (1999-2009) at University of Louisville Women's HealthCare, which pioneered one of the first fertility programs in the Midwest. He is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist who is also subspecialty board-certified in reproductive endocrinology.
In 1997, Good Housekeeping magazine named Dr. Nakajima as one of the nation's "Best Doctors for Women". Since 2005 he has been locally recognized as one of the top fertility doctors in Louisville Magazine's annual Top Doc peer poll (2005-2010). His special clinical interests are In Vitro Fertilization, the use of donor eggs for resolving infertility, gynecologic care of the elite athlete, women with Turner syndrome, the treatment of endometriosis and developing new contraceptive methods for women and men.
Dr. Nakajima has been widely published featured in papers, abstracts, and reviews on various topics related to women's health. He is the author of several books and monographs including the Contemporary Guide to Contraception and Clinical Protocols in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. He has been the Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at the University of Louisville since 1998. Dr. Nakajima is also Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology Fellowship and has been involved with the education of 18 fellows.
Dr. Nakajima completed his premedical and medical school at St. Louis University. He was a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Loma Linda University and he subsequently completed a three-year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of Vermont. Dr. Nakajima performed a second two-year fellowship as a NIH Clinical Associate Physician in the General Clinical Research Center at the University of Vermont. He is married and has two girls ages 25 and 22 years old.
