Integramed's Attain Fertility Centers To Manage Fertility Operations For UNC Healthcare

CHAPEL HILL, NC & PURCHASE, NY, February 10, 2012 – IntegraMed® America, Inc. (NASDAQ: INMD), the leader in developing, marketing and managing specialty healthcare facilities in the fertility and vein care markets, announced today that its Attain Fertility® Centers Division (AFC) has entered into an agreement with UNC Health Care System’s (UNC) to manage its fertility clinic operations. With this agreement, the Attain Fertility® Network will comprise 15 partner practices and 23 affiliate fertility centers throughout the U.S.

Under the agreement, the newly formed LLC will receive IntegraMed’s full complement of support services, including operational and financial management, revenue cycle management, patient marketing and sales, information systems support, and various other services, including patient support through

Kim Schneider, Vice Chair for Administration at the University of North Carolina’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, commented, “This is very much a co-operative effort between UNC Health Care and IntegraMed’s AFC division. We feel very strongly about the benefits that the full complement of management support, patient sales and marketing, electronic patient information systems, and one-of-a-kind Attain IVF programs will bring to our faculty, students and patients.”

Jay Higham, President and CEO of IntegraMed added, “Our full array of operational services will allow UNC’s fertility physicians and staff to focus on what they do best: provide superior patient care and clinical outcomes. Looking ahead, we expect to double the clinic’s number of IVF cycles over the next five years while improving efficiency across the clinic’s operations.”

The Raleigh-Durham market is one of the fastest growing fertility markets in the U.S. yet remains underserved. While the target population is growing and average household income is well above the national average, the percentage of births from Assisted Reproductive Technologies is significantly behind the national average, providing an attractive opportunity for growth.

The practice is staffed by four board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologists (REs): Drs. Marc A. Fritz, Steven L. Young, Jennifer E. Mersereau and Anne Z. Steiner, along with a lab director and office staff. To improve patient access in the region, the practice will be relocated to the Research Triangle Park area, where AFC and UNC will work together to develop a highly visible practice and brand. The move is anticipated to take place in the first half of 2012.

Dr. Fritz, chief of UNC’s Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, commented, “We’ve built long-standing relationships with patients and physicians in the Raleigh-Durham area, so it was critical for us to partner with an organization like IntegraMed that understands our clinical culture, values and our commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for  patients in the Raleigh-Durham community.”

For over 25 years, IntegraMed’s Attain Fertility Centers division has helped partner practices grow faster and more profitably than they would have on their own. This partnership will help UNC to gain market share through AFC’s proven model for success, focused on:

  • Alignment through strategic planning and capital investments;
  • Operational Excellence by leveraging industry-leading standardized operations, administration, clinical tools, market research and shared services, and,
  • Growth through world-class marketing and a patient-centric approach that ensures partner practices continue to gain market share within their region.

Mr. Higham concluded, “There were several factors that went into our decision to partner with UNC, including the very positive relationship we have enjoyed since 2008 when they joined the Attain Fertility Centers Network as an affiliate offering our Attain IVF Programs. Today’s agreement builds on that foundation along with their impressive clinical expertise and reputation.”
